'Kerala Seeks Seafood Industry Collaborations with 'Kerala Seeks Seafood Industry Collaborations with the European Union'
The European Union, the Government of India, and the Government of Kerala jointly hosted a high-level conclave at The Leela Raviz, Thiruvananthapuram, aimed at strengthening collaboration in sustainable development, environmental conservation, marine protection, and social empowerment initiatives.
Baiju Lakshmi, Founder and Chairman of the Universal Karmic Foundation (UKF), was invited as a distinguished participant in recognition of his pioneering contributions to social transformation, marine conservation, and community-led sustainable projects.
2. Objectives of the Conclave
Strengthen India–EU cooperation in the fields of environment and social development.
Explore innovative models for sustainable fisheries, plastic waste management, and coastal livelihood development.
Promote public–private partnerships for eco-friendly and socially impactful projects across Kerala and India.
Identify scalable projects with potential for international recognition and support.
3. Role of Baiju Lakshmi and the Universal Karmic Foundation
Representing UKF, Baiju Lakshmi brought forward the Foundation’s vision and mission on a global platform through the following key contributions:
(a) Presentation of the UKF Model
Introduced the Uni Karmic Bank (UKB) app, a digital platform that records and rewards acts of selfless social service.
Demonstrated how gamification and Karma Scores can inspire communities to actively participate in sustainable initiatives.
Showcased the flagship project, “From Sea to Rice – Plastic Elimination Yajna”, empowering fishermen to collect plastic waste from the ocean in exchange for incentives, recognition, and community support.
(b) Policy Recommendations
Proposed the establishment of harbor-based plastic collection and monitoring centers in partnership with government and international agencies.
Advocated for India–EU marine conservation programs, combining coastal tourism, plastic recycling, and ocean-cleaning technologies.
Recommended the creation of international recognition systems, such as Desharatna Awards, to honor significant contributions to sustainability
